National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL)

NPTEL is a project and Indian online learning platform funded by Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD), Government of India. This project jointly developed by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for University-level Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics subjects. Basically this project consist and developed based on the recorded video lectures which is designed and recorded by the member IIT and IISc institutions which is open access for the learners. creating course contents in engineering and science.

NPTEL Content Models and Availability

NPTEL has Contents for the five engineering branches like Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics and Communication and Mechanical engineering and core science programmes of undergraduate engineering courses in Indian institutions like IITs and IIScs. These courses and content designed and developed as per the model curriculum suggested by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and also as per the syllabus of major affiliating Universities in India.

NPTEL MOOCs Initiative

          During 2013, NPTEL online portal provides the courses of about 4, 8, or 12-week through online mode, especially on topics relevant to students of higher education in India, along with basic core courses in sciences and humanities free of cost. This online course contains all the online learning course content followed by assessment.

        From March 2014 NPTEL began offering open online certificates courses and provides Course Completion Certificates from the IITs/IISc for those who completed the courses successfully. Hence, Now it is possible to other interested students and learners which is not coming from the IIT system to do these course easily and get the online NPTEL Course completion certificates from the IITs.

          At present NPTEL provides web and video courses across 23 disciplines are available on NPTEL portal nptel.ac.in

NPTEL Certification Course Duration

Currently NPTEL provide the certification of 4, 8, or 12-week duration in online mode. Online Course consists of video content along with an assignment and online support of the discussion forum.
